The service has access to fully equipped wheelchair accessible vehicles driven by volunteer drivers as well as volunteer drivers using their own cars. We can help with transport to hospital, dentist, health centre and clinic appointments, optician and podiatry appointments, attending social activities / groups, visiting friends and relatives. Community Transport schemes provide a pre-booked, door-to-door transport service to help you get around, visit friends and enjoy leisure activities. Every parish in Herefordshire is served by a community transport scheme, based in the voluntary sector and supported by Herefordshire Council.

Royal Voluntary Service provides community transport to support older people to live more independent lives. Using their own cars or adapted vehicles and minibuses, our friendly local volunteer drivers drive clients to and from hospital, GP and other appointments, to local shops for shopping and to social visits and activities.

Community transport Community Transport schemes provide a pre-booked, door-to-door transport service to help you get around, visit friends and enjoy leisure activities. Every parish in Herefordshire is served by a community transport scheme, based in the voluntary sector and supported by Herefordshire Council.

The service includes: Regular door-to-door assisted transport to a number of local shopping centres. Scheduled bus trips for group therapy and activity sessions. Individual transport to medical or other health related appointments. Public transport education, travel training and trip planning.

Community and voluntary transport schemes offer services for people who have difficulty using, or are unable to use public transport services. If you have these difficulties, perhaps due to age, disability or simply a lack of public transport services where you live, you can search online for community transport in your area.

How Community Transport can make a difference. Sometimes we take for granted the freedom to go where we want, when we want. For those people who find it difficult to get out, or who don’t have a car, our volunteer transport service can help them feel more.

Community transport schemes generally involve local members of the community such as volunteer drivers to support them called a community car scheme (also known as a voluntary car scheme).

Some schemes also provide what is known as a ‘ Dial a Ride ‘ service whereby a passenger requests a pickup time, and they are picked up by an accessible. Transport services for elderly people with mobility problems are invaluable, because they help them to remain independent and avoid isolation.

There are many community transport services provided by the voluntary sector throughout the country which offer transport arrangements such as regular transport to supermarkets or shopping centres.
